This unit aims to offer students the opportunity to acquire and practice effective empathy skills. Specifically, students will build background knowledge by reading text, examining models of social empathy by same-aged peers and engaging in classroom discussions that stimulate critical thinking relating to topics that are relevant to most high school aged students. They will use an empathy-based problem-solving model, Design Thinking, to step into the shoes of their classmates and learn how they experience empathy in their school community in order to design a solution to help solve a community problem.
