Effective Communication for Healthy Relationships (Spanish Translation)
Student-facing materials in this unit have been translated to Spanish.
An important component of effective communication is the ability to calmly and clearly communicate a message. This unit starts with a lesson about emotions and the brain, to increase student understanding of how the biology of the brain can affect our emotions. It then offers tangible tools for self-regulation. Students will learn to communicate from their “thinking” brains instead of their “emotional” brains. The unit unpacks a variety of communication tools to add to students’ social-emotional toolboxes. Lesson topics include self-connection, self-advocacy, conflict resolution, and the unique opportunities and challenges of texting as a means of communication. The unit culminates with a project where students practice these newly acquired skills within a specific relationship over a 14-day period.
